Fiil + kişi + to

Bu fiiller araya bir kişi alıyor. Türkçede "...-mesini istiyorum" kalıbının karşılığı.

Türkçedeki "...-mesini istiyorum" yapısı "that" ile çevrilme eğiliminde: "I want that you come" ✗. İngilizcede want, ask, tell, expect, would like bu yapıyı kişi + to ile kuruyor.

Kişi almayanlar: hope, suggest

Bu ayrım en sık karıştırılan şey. hope ve suggest araya kişi alamıyor, onlara cümle geliyor.

  want kişi alıyor.

Sıfat ve isimden sonra to

Fiillerin dışında sıfatlardan ve bazı isimlerden sonra da mastar geliyor.

Soru kelimesi + to

"Ne yapacağımı bilmiyorum" gibi cümleler soru kelimesi + mastar ile kuruluyor.

Sıralama ve üstünlükten sonra to

the first, the last, the only ve en üstünlük derecesinden sonra mastar geliyor. Türkçede sıfat-fiil ekiyle kurulan ("gelen ilk kişi") yapının karşılığı.

Bu kalıp sıfat cümlesinin kısası (17.3): "the first person who arrived" → "the first to arrive". Aynı bilgiyi daha az kelimeyle vermek B2'nin işareti ve bu kalıp onun en kolay örneği.

• She was the first to arrive.
